Appropriate Speeds on your driving test

Lots of learner drivers who take the UK driving test will pick up driver faults(minor faults) for going too slow on the driving test.  Some of the reasons they give is, they did't want to break the sped limit, they were nervous or it could be they didn't understand what an appropriate speed would be.

So the appropriate speed will change depending on the speed limit, the road conditions and the surroundings around.

Speed limit

Knowing what is the speed limit is important so you don't go above the limit.  But driving too slow will frustrate the driver behind you which could result in the driver behind you trying to overtake you at a possible dangerous place.

Road conditions

Most drivers love driving on a sunny dry day when the road conditions are good and clear. So you would expect to drive at an appropriate speed on that day.  But if the conditions changed to wet weather or icy or frosty then you would expect to drive slower for safety reasons.

Surroundings

The surroundings is the volume of traffic on the road, parked or moving.  The type of road, is it straight or has the road got some difficult bends ahead.   Has the road ahead got a school at the side, or a concert hall or even high street. The busier the condition the slower you would go to give you the time to react to potential hazards.

I have used the raw footage from the recordings.
A great looking camera that comes with lots of extra accessories.  The push buttons on the side and front are easy to use.
One of the first things I turned on was the  Image stabiliser, which I thought done the job when I was driving around. It also comes with built in wifi which you can link to the free app.

DVSA is supporting Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) to help improve the safety of young newly qualified drivers through the Driver 2020 trial. We need you You can apply to take part in the trial if you're currently learning to drive and are under 25 years old. If you take part, you might get some free training, e-learning or be asked to download an app to help with your learning. You will be asked to complete several surveys after you pass your test, which you will be paid for. What can you win? All learner drivers taking part in the research will be entered into a prize draw to win either a years free car insurance, an iPad or shopping vouchers. Research aims Driver 2020 aims to identify which training, education and technology-based approaches give the greatest benefits to the safety, skill and confidence of young newly qualified drivers. In a world-leading piece of research, TRL will be gathering information from more than 14,000 young people over the 3 years of the project.

Changes of driving test times

Changes to driving test timings To make sure our driving examiners have enough time dedicated to their training and development, from 10 October 2018 we'll be changing the testing schedules for driving examiners on one day a week. This will help us to deliver a better service to customers and provide more opportunities for our staff to develop their skills. How this will affect testing To build in this extra time for our examiners, you’ll see some small changes to the test times throughout the day. The training and development time will be on the same day every week. During the rest of the week, examiner schedules will remain unchanged. We’ll continue to deliver the same amount of tests on the day the development time is scheduled as we do now. You should contact your Local Driving Test Manager if you have any questions on the change to schedules.

It seems just about everyone has been launching a flying car lately, but the Kitty Hawk Flyer stands out for one big reason: it’s here today.

Specifically, it’s in Las Vegas, flying over a big lake. 

This is where Kitty Hawk - a company owned by Google co-founder Larry Page - has set up a small hangar and training facility.

It’s where new flyers learn the ropes, a process that currently takes a mere 90 minutes. Most of it is spent rehearsing what happens if something were to go wrong. 

The training begins in a basic simulation, a computer game that teaches you about the two controls you need to worry about - one switch to control altitude, and a small joystick to handle direction. 

Then you move on to a real Flyer that is strapped to the ground, an exercise designed to remove any nerves you might have about being in the vehicle. 

And then you practice getting out in an emergency. The team has set up a ball pool to rehearse getting out of the craft if it happens to land upside down on the water.

And then you’re good to go.

Sadly, the company wouldn’t let me try it out the Flyer for myself. For now I’d have to stand on the shore and watch Brittney Miculka perform manoeuvres over the water.

Driving Examiners to check MOT and Tax

Changes to the DT1: checking for MOT and tax Driving examiners will now be using a new mobile search app to check if cars used for driving tests have a valid MOT and tax. Most people won't have to worry as instructor cars should have both valid tax and MOT. Only cars which examiners have reasonable concern with will be checked, and it will not change how long the driving test is. If a car is found not to have either a valid MOT or tax, the test won't go ahead. Read the updated DT1 driving test form
